While staffing a table for Organizing for America, I had a chance to explore the Northside Farmers Market. What delightful, delicious produce and other goodies; cooking demos; entertainment, and all in the Wick Park setting of urban Youngstown, Ohio! And did I tell you about the prices--really gentle on your limited budget.

I like to buy from the area farmers market to support them and know that I can get the freshest fruits and vegetables from them.

i believe in buying from local farmers that sells fresh fruit, vegetables and meats because it keeps the local farmer from going under due to corp. farms. i buy from any farmer that practices organic gardening of some kind. i love the weekly market because i love the interacting with other patrons that shop at these farmers' market on frequent basis. farmers' markets build trust and friendships between consumers and owners that aren't in these big super supermarkets in our communities. i enjoy having my breakfast or lunch made fresh at the northside farmers' market because some of the vendors buy from the these northside market farmers thus using fresh produce in their products.

I support the Northside Farmers Market because if I did still live in Youngstown it would be walking distance from my home on Selma. My family were regulars at the Pyatt Street Market but it sure would have been nice to have something on the Northside.

The Northside Farmer's Market fosters community by providing local produce at an affordable price on Saturdays at the Unitarian Church and on Tuesday's in downtown Youngstown. The market also provides information about events that are happening in the area and about services that the community offers. The Northside Farmer's Market is the coming together of good people for good things.

I am thankful for the experience as a whole and proud to be a part of it; fresh, affordable healthful food and original art. I have learned so much in the past few years from the connections I've made at this venue.I had the best vegetarian sloppy joe at this market a few years back, purchased lovely handmade jewelry as gifts, tasted organic beet greens for the first time here and even learned about heirloom tomatoes, did I mention that I bought the coolest vintage dresses here as well...

It's the best thing to happen in our community, in terms of bringing together diverse segments of our population. And it's so wonderfully social!

Besides being a great place to buy local produce and baked goods I love getting to socialize with the people who grow my food, my friends and my neighbors on a Saturday morning. The market also features great entertainment on some Saturdays. The entertainment is mostly live music but they have even booked side-show performers swallowing swords and eating fire.

The city of Youngstown was devastated by the closing of its main industry, the steel mills, 30 years ago. Currently, the Northside Farmers Market is the neighborhood's only venue for fresh produce.

The market is vital to youngstown residents who do not have transportation to or the availability of fresh grocery produce. Also, the market provides services such as cooking ideas and meals that are easy and affordable for low income families.

They have worked so hard recently to ensure that low-income individuals have greater access to healthy, local foods! They NOW accept the Ohio Direction Card (food stamp card) and have food prep demos/nutrition education classes, and coordinate transportation to the market. They are helping to make a greener Youngstown!!!!

For 6 years, the Northside Farmers Market has provided an outlet for local farmers, artists and the community to gather on Saturdays and enjoy fresh produce, baked goods and other home-made goodies. More important, the sense of community that has been nurtured and established has made the market something hundreds of people look forward to each Saturday from July to September... And now with a Tuesday market downtown, our access to fresh local foods and each other has been expanded! Come for the produce, stay for the community!
