Knowledgeable, friendly people at our market are willing to share both food and expertise--and they know the food from seed to shopping bag! I shopped our market for several years before one of the local farmers convinced me I could grow some of my own. Some buckets, dirt, and lots of good advice later, he's right! I now have a little of my own home-grown produce ... and Larry (the friendly local farmer) has been there all the way, helping me know what to do next. (I'll admit a bit of surprise when a laid-back farmer first started quoting the latest research published in agricultural journals, but on a moment's reflection I shouldn't have been surprised at all!)
I still look forward to visiting our market almost every Thursday during the summer, buying a little and just enjoying the atmosphere.

Because private owned farms are becoming obsolete and it is very important to support your hard working farmers and local businesses.

For one thing, supporting the local market is the right thing to do, plus it's so fresh and tasty. And also, you get to meet so many people there. Not just the local farmers. It's a great day to get out!

A wonderful array of strictly locally grown produce, even organic, plus food vendors selling homemade goodies like bread and ethnic foods. The quality is unsurpassed, and the prices are unbeatable. I especially love the lady who brings gorgeous fresh herbs and the best fresh garlic I ever tasted. This market is a huge asset for our city!

It's like an adventure..lots of great fruits & veggies all in one place. I always learn something new when purchasing goodies. From new recipies to new ways to plant. It's like visiting w/ an old friend.
With our limited summers here on the east coast it is like a special treat.

Happens in park in town square, weekly, on Thursdays--it's like a food fair once a week all summer long. Diverse crowd, convenient location, and arts and crafts and prepared foods stalls in addition to produce stalls.

Fresh local produce at the Farmers' Market is the next best thing to my own garden--picked for market day--veggies, fruit & flowers every week--what a treat!

As part of the Slow Food Movement, it's wonderful to be able to buy food directly from the farmers who are responsible for growing it. It's a great way to spend a Thursday.

I am a vegetarian and I love to buy locally grown fruit and vegetables. The Wilkes-Barre Farmers market is the highlight of my week, every Thrusday at lunchtime my friends and I head to the market and get lots of local goodies for a very reasonable price. everything is always fresh and yummy. Try getting that at Wal-Mart!
