This is a Historic Downtown Market and is beautiful. Great places to eat like J.R.'s Fresh Cut French Fries, they have the best cut from fresh french fries I have ever eaten. All their Combo's are great and very reasonable, most under $6.00. They now take credit cards so its easy if you don't have enough cash after buying all your fruits, meats and vegetables at the other stands.

When I first visited the market I was shocked by how many local merchants there were, we decided to have lunch and shop around. Like others have said I support this market and would love to see it stay open/

Historic Downtown Market with great produce, meats and lunches. J.R.'s Fresh Cut French Fries has the best fresh cut fries anywhere, they also have great Combo's that include a sandwich a fresh cut fry and a 16oz drink, most are around five dollars including tax. They have great hamburger bbq, fish, oyster, crab cake sandwiches, Texas Hot Weiners, pulled pork bbq, chicken strips, onion rings and great home made peanut butter fudge for only $5.00 a pound. Wow.

Great Fresh Cut French Fries at J.R.'s Fresh Cut Fries in the historic Central Market House in York. They have the best food at J.R.'s Home made chicken pot pie, oyster, fish, and crab cake sandwiches and the best Hamburger BBQ.

It is a beautiful building from 1888--the heart and soul of York City. The market is doing its best to revive in the midst of a society that has all but abandoned its downtown community.

Everyone is great and there are so many wonderful vendors. I can find the freshest produce, whole foods, locally made candy, crafts, and yummy restaurants. I grow up at this market. My Great Grandparnets (David & Ella (Leader) Markey) and then my grandparents. I worked at the market since I was old enough to go along with my Grandmother and until I started a full-time job. I miss going to market, but not getting up at 3:00-4:00 in the morning to set everything up just the way my Grandmother wanted it. It's a great tradition in the York Area. Keep it going.

The Central market has been an integral part of the community and local economy for over 100 years. Aside from the obvious historic value, it serves a loyal and expanding clientele as a gathering and social venue, dining and of course the purchase of local food and products.

Because I support the entire farmer's market concept, including the increased availability of safe foods that encourage and support good health, local growers (and this the local economy) as well as the healthy social contacts and sense of community that the farmer's market environment promotes.

Central Market House has something for everyone! From vintage clothes and knick-knacks to the Creative breakfasts and Paninis at Mezzogiorno. It is a great place to catch-up with people from around the area and the vendors are all very friendly and willing to talk to you about their goods. Check out Robburitos' newest location in the silver bread van!

The Market house has so much history and is such a personal experiance. As a kid I remember visiting Central Market with a field trip from school. When I went back to the market as an adult I remembered how much fun I had. Which was my only recollection of York city(since I was from the country) and it was a very positive one!!!! So as a child I had a good experiance with York city and later bought my first house and moved there mainly because I enjoyed my trip to market 14 years earlier. Its a great place to visit as a child and an adult!

Central Market House has been part of my family when my great grandmother Ella Markey had a stand, she can be seen in the mural across the street from Central Market House on Beaver Street. Most of my family has worked in market in some way or another. I opened my business there back in 1999. Lots of my family still own and operate stands in the market today. Besides all the great fresh local foods, you can enjoy meeting your friends for a good cup of coffee or an excellent lunch. Central Market is special gem in York!
