I had missed the market this year - we've been out of town or busy - until last week! I had forgotten the amazing sense of community I feel when I'm there! I actually didn't see anyone I knew last week, which was unusual, but I stlll felt so completely and utterly at home. The music, the bustle, the gorgeous fruits, veggies and bread! Amazing...I hope we continue to do this every year. LOVE it! : )

The market has a wide variety of produce and other products. It is in a convenient location, with a great atmosphere. Shopping at the farmers' market gives you the opportunity to be closer to the community as you interact with folks from your neighborhood. Also, it is great to meet the folks who grow the produce, make the baked goods, etc. which are for sale!

The Salem Farmers' Market brings back a tradition that dates back to the 17th century. On top of that it brings to the Salem community something that has been sadly lacking in recent decades---access to fresh local produce. From the very first day the new Farmers' Market has made the downtown livelier and more vital.

This Farmers' Market has been a part of life in Salem for 375 years. It is a wonderful opportunity for families to choose foods together, to talk with the person who grew the food and to purchase a fresh product. It is the perfect way to avoid preservatives, pre-prepard foods full of who knows what and to teach children how much fun it is to prepare foods from scratch and to eat a healthy diet. Because the market is centrally located, visits to the market can be combined with other fun, free and inexpensive activities in the city.

Salem Farmer's market is like Salem - diverse. There are the usual (wonderful) farms offering fruits and veggies, but we also have a tiny in-town start-up farm selling fresh eggs (which are gone in 10 minutes), an in-town vendor who makes her own soaps and a bug-repelling stick that has become the favorite of all the parents in town, baked goods. Many downtown Salem events bring in lots of tourists - this event brings in everyone. Another big jump up for an up-and-coming little city.
