I was looking for a way to support a local business and purchase sustainably-raised and -grown food, and I couldn't be more satisfied with the service I received from Julie and Green Heron Growers.

From helping with online purchase options to home drop-off logistics, Julie was incredibly helpful. She put together a package as a gift and delivered it on short notice, with a bow on top.

She then followed up to verify that everything had been delivered as expected and that the recipient was satisfied with the product. And they were; from the meat to the local syrup and honey, they were pleased with everything and look forward to potentially camping or attending a festival at Julie's farm in the summer.

I found Julie on LocalHarvest. chq.shopwhereilive.com/vendor/theheron/ is a good option if you're in the Chautauqua area. However, I needed delivery to Buffalo, so I ended up shopping directly at theheron.org and Julie was very responsive via both phone and email for all questions I had.

We ordered a quarter cow last year, and also went and visited their farm during a NOFA sponsored field day. Their beef is grass fed in a way that's sustainable and actually builds up the earth instead of depleting it. They treat their animals very well, and they're just nice people! The meat was really good! Very different from the stuff you get in the store. We loved knowing where the animal came from, how it was treated, what it ate, so much so that we ordered another quarter cow this year. I hope they're in business for a long time!
