It is one of the best farmers markets in the country, if not the world. The fresh produce is of a very high quality and quite diverse. Several farmers sell excellent organic meat--it is the only place in Cleveland I've found to get grass fed beef--and the mushroom stand is second-to-none for both foraged and cultivated fungus. We also like the craftsfolk and the general community atmosphere.

Some of the best meals I've ever devised started with staples from the North Union Farmers Market. One on one interaction between regular sellers and weekly buyers is always rewarding, and the variety of offerings in an open air, pedestrian, and uniquely urban setting is what brings our family back each week.

I would rather patronize the small farmer any day than the big grocery stores. I like to interact with the farmers, since I have an organic vegetable garden. Makes it interesting conversation since we have something in common.

In the WINTER I so appreciate the N. Union farmer's market at Shaker Square still being available for my fresh food shopping. (During the summer I shop at the west side farmer's markets closer to where I live- and I'm sorry to see they're not on this list)

I LOVE this market for the atmosphere, the quality of the food and the education I get from talking with the many vendors. It's a fabulous experience and I love to take my friends and turn them on to the beauty of buying directly from the farmers and artists.

I have loved this market since it's inception over 10 years ago! I love the sense of community it brings such as in Europe. It has grown tremendously over the years and with more and more local farmers and vendors. What can be better than fresh produce, food, organic products and supporting our local farmers. Our family loves it. We go every week. I only wish it could be daily!

I support the North Union Farmers Market because they promote keeping us all healthy while we help support the local economy. All the vendors are sooo friendly and full of information...and they care, they really care...it's such healthy sweetness, and I'm not just talking about all the great bakery either!

It's the best one I've ever been to! Great locally grown produce, the best local eggs, meat, cheese (even homemade ice cream made from free range cows -- the yummiest!!!), fabulous baked goods, pre-made healthy foods, and even artisans! It's where I do all my shopping, and meet all my friends every week! The closest thin I can liken it to is a street festival where you can also buy really great food and art!

It has an ample mix of area small farmers--enough to maintain choices among sources of all kinds of very fresh meats, vegetables and flowers plus a fair number of local crafts suppliers. All this comes with an opportunity to meet and greet lots of friends and acquaintances from the comunity.

North Union Farmers Market is a valuable asset to our community. Having one place where I can access so many local farmers helps me to contribute to the local economy, reduce my carbon footprint, prepare GOOD food for my family, and all at one place I can walk or ride my bike to! We are lucky to have such a fabulous place.

I buy local!!! i want to eat local!! I want fresh natural food. And i want it to be easier for everyone else!! Because the corporate monsters that control are food are doing it unnatural and are being unfair to humans and animals! And if more of us stand up for the simplest things like a farmers market, then we can have an impact.

I think supporting the Farmers Market helps all of us sustain the local farmers and the ever decreasing farmlands. I trust that the North Union Farmers Market selects only vendors who are responsible care takers of the land who provide wholesome food that is essentially chemical free.

It ignites all 6 senses like no other place in my world. Taste: obvious with samples galore and of course the anticipation of a week full of food with TASTE; smell: flowers, crepes, pad thai wafting; sight: a color explosion thanks designs from mother nature & other artists; sound: weekly greetings, violins, steel drums, child delights; touch: zero packaging between fingers and food; and the 6th sense: always feels like the right place to be.

Friends and growers gather each Sat. AM--it's wonderful to see them together. Local food is better than factory food in every conceivable way. Now we just need a mechanism for selling MORE local food, either direct to consumers or to groceries and restaurants, in order to make food growing a major part of the urban landscape and economy.

Every Saturday morning, from shortly after dawn until noon, a "happening" takes place on Shaker Square along both sides of the rapid transit tracks. It consists of an incredible array of healthful, fresh locally grown/raised/prepared food; music (steel drums band, cellists, violinists, guitarists...); beautiful woodworking, handmade organic clothing and other arts/crafts; and hundreds of locals mingling and having a great time. In the 60s, it might have been called a "Be-in," but today, it's just a good time and one of the reasons why this community is such a great place to live.

Ohio has exceptional farmland that is being consumed by urban sprawl. The NUFM supports local farmers. In addition, Ohio is the "fattest" state! The Shaker square area is a diverse population area, and the NUFM brings healthy, locally grown food to an urban market to increase healthy lifestyle choices. Plus, it is "the" spot to meet and greet like-minded people in a community setting on Saturday mornings!

It brings country to the city and reminds us of the food seasons for our region which are all confused now that food comes from so many different places around the world. It also creates a venue for small businesses to connect with people/customers they may not ordinarily know about or would find if not for the market. The market brings us back to the bounty of our local community and how much we have available to us in the Cleveland OH area.

The North Union Farmers market at Shaker Square is not only a place to shop, it's a community. I buy fresh, certified local produce and meats, and also get to visit with the vendors and all of my market friends. It's a totally different experience than the grocery store, not to mention the flavor and freshness of the product available at the market!

North Union Farmer's Market holds market events every day of the week all over the city. You can get great organic produce, eggs/dairy/meat from local humane and free range producers, many vendors sell jams/jellies/pies they make with the fruit from their farm, there are cooking demonstration, you can get organic flowers, Lake Erie Creamery sells the creamiest goat cheese I've ever had made from the milk of their own goats, a gentleman is there offering knive sharpening services and of course...Lucy's Sweet Surrender who sells the best strudel on the planet has a stand there. It's been around for years and was the brain child of a local chef named Parker Bosley. You routinely bump into the local star chefs at the market picking up fresh local ingredients for their patrons that evening.

Friendly people! This community supports each other so it feels good to be around, great variety- foods you don't see at the grocery store, it's a social event, there is variety-- music, crafts, food, treats, herbs, flowers, coffee. Related organizations make it broader and add surprise interest. There is food to taste and try, all wonderful, colorful, tasty, and healthy!

Not only do they have fresh fruits and vegetables but they are organic and feature sustainable farmers unlike the large Cleveland farmers market which has fruits and vegetables but you are not organic. I also have met so many nice famers like James who let me daughter come to his farm and milk his cows and take a ride on a tractor and eat spelt! Even the Botanical Gardens has a booth selling veggies and homemade salsa that benefits local gardens. There is always music in the summer and it goes indoors in the winter to still provide the best food year round. I love to take my daughter so she can get a closer view of where her food comes from. They even sell breakfast burritos- super yummy and filled with ingredients from the farmers at the market. I can't say enough. This is the best market I have been to.
