I have been getting produce from these guys at the Haymaker Farmers' Market in Kent for a couple years now! The produce is the pinnacle of high quality, local goodness. Not only is the produce great but Matt has a loving heart and is always more than willing to help you with questions or bagging stuff up. In the summer there was beans galore, garlic, onions, kale, lettuces, tomatoes, flowers, the list goes on! The inter also brings great storable goodies like potatoes, squash, pumpkins, and onions. FRESH IS BEST! The variety is amazing in this climate and if Matt didn't need to rest his bones for a couple months a year, I'm sure he could produce fresh produce all 365 days! Please support your local farmers and check out the Kent Farmers' whenever you can to give your support to the people who need it most by skipping the corporative middle man!

We have belonged to this CSA since it began and it has been money well spent. What a difference it makes to have local organic food available to us; nothing tastes as good as it does. Matt produces a great variety and it has stretched our taste buds trying vegetables we may have never cooked with before. Matt keeps in close touch with members, letting us know how weather may be affecting the crops. Another CSA member emails us with a list of what will be in the shares, as well as suggestions and recipes on how to use the items.

This is my second year as a member of Birdsong Farm's CSA. I live in Kent, Ohio, and we have the excellent Haymaker Farmer's Market on Saturdays that offers such a huge variety of products that I shouldn't even need a share, but I like being a part of a CSA because I believe in supporting communities. Corny, I know, but it's true. I chose Birdsong in 2011 because of the variety in produce, the option for winter shares, and their flexibility for pick-ups. I renewed my membership this year because Matt grows the best heirloom tomatoes, kale, and squash I've ever tasted. Everything is so good, but those are my favorites, and I was glad to see some eggplant and leeks in my shares this summer. I look forward to garlic scapes in the first shares, and to the heirloom variety dried beans at the end of fall. Throughout the season I've enjoyed a nice sample of different greens, bright and crisp radishes, and Hakurei turnips which are so sweet my family eats them raw. Oh, and the potatoes! They are magnificent. Matt also grows all sorts of lovely little winter squashes that I've never had the opportunity to try before, like delicata and dumpling squash. In addition, Lisa Friel provides a weekly recap of what's happening on the farm via email, and gives us an idea of what to expect in our shares each week. All in all it has been a great experience to be a member of this CSA, and I look forward to many more years of Matt's awesome produce.

We were delighted with our share last season. Matt has had a lot of experience growing organically and knows what he is doing. Each week we had overflowing shares of gorgeous produce. I'm particularly happy about Matt's plan this season to use reusable produce bags. If you are looking for a plastic bag-free CSA, this is it! He loves to grow potatoes, in particular, and I got so many over the course of the growing season that I was able to squirrel away a ton to use throughout the fall and early winter. His potatoes are out of this world. Matt also grows cool things like shitake mushrooms. 100% of what you get in your share is grown by Matt. Nothing beats having fresh, local greens after a long Ohio winter.
