Best CSA I've ever participated in. And the nicest farmers I've ever met. The variety is great, the vegetables are of the best quality, and there aren't too many places where you can get fresh harvested produce in the middle of the winter.

We first visited Sunseed farms at a hoophouse build 4 years ago. We were so taken with the friendliness of Tomm and Trilby, their farmer co-workers and the beauty of the place that we signed up for shares. Since then we have been through many seasons of fresh flowers and produce from them, always a joy to see the vitality and colors of everyhting that they bring for our table! It feels like going to a community gathering when you pick up your shares, too. Seeing people and sharing stories as we bag up our goodies. It is extremely satisfying to know that we are providing such healthy, fresh food for our kids AND supporting a wonderful local farm and family. Five stars! Selena Lucas

Sunseed covers all the bases and basics: greens, root vegetables, kale and collards, beets, peppers, tomatoes, along with plenty of cool asian veggies, and occasional surprises like garlic scales and black radishes. They even do a flower share in summer! The quantities are generous, and the quality is unbeatable. I wouldn't feel comfortable having my family eat produce from another source; knowing for example that all our potatoes are pure and chemical-free is a huge relief. I'll also learned to make a number of new dishes from the weekly emails. Really, there is nothing not to like; this is the place to go for the start of every meal!

As a health coach, I teach my clients to cook from scratch using whole, local ingredients - and those occasionally include something from my Sunseed CSA box. Tomm + Trilby's vegetables always elicit an exclamation or two, my favorite being from a client who actually emailed me with WHERE DID YOU GET THAT SPINACH?!? in the subject line.

Sunseed vegetables are consistently beautiful, delicious, clean, and nicely presented. The variety is excellent, and the amount plentiful. My family of 4 eats probably eats more vegetables than most, so I occasionally supplement with grocery store veggies (mostly in winter), but even my kids can identify which are storebought, and the comparison is not flattering. In my opinion, the amount and variety are entirely sufficient for most omnivorous families.

Pickup logistics (2 times/locations) are perfect for my schedule, and I love Sunseed's collaboration with other local producers to offer a little something extra - bread, chicken, eggs, etc.

This review relates to a full winter 2012 CSA share.

Sunseed advertises that they:"design our shares to provide enough vegetables for your family" and that the 2012 winter share includes: "over twenty kinds of cold-hardy greens, root vegetables and herbs from our hoops, as well as about a dozen different kinds of vegetables from our fall harvest in storage". My experience is that you can't be eating many vegetables if this is supposed to be enough for a family. Last weeks' share was a gallon bag of baby kale (1 meal for a family of 3-4), a gallon bag of mixed lettuces (another meal, or maybe even the same meal), a very large rutabaga, 4 onions, a bunch of carrots, a small bunch of cilantro, a small bunch of parsley, 4 potatoes and perhaps one more item that I've overlooked. You may judge if that is enough vegetables for a family. I don't think so, unless we are only talking about feeding the putative family for a couple of days. Re variety, so far we have received 5-6 different kinds of greens; perhaps the other 14-15 are in the mesclun mixes. Everything is fresh and in excellent shape, but the small quantities make this an extremely expensive CSA share. I'll be asking a lot more questions before I sign up for another CSA share with anyone.

We certainly recognize that the quantity in the CSA share varies with the seasons, and we're working hard to provide enough food for our members through the seasons. We also work hard to communicate with our members how our harvest is effected by climate, including the very challenging early spring we had, with such extremely high temperatures in the month of March. Late winter and early spring turns out to be the most difficult time of year to grow for, and we feel confident going into our third winter CSA season that we will be able to provide plentiful quantity every month of the year. This week's share in early summer: garlic scapes, kale, snap peas, pac choi, spicy salad mix, sweet salad mix, spinach, hakurei turnips, swiss chard, head lettuce and radishes.

I had the pleasure of volunteering on Sunseed Farm last summer/fall and I'm planning on returning again this year. Not only is it a beautiful plot of land with fresh, flavorful & nutritious veggies, but it is also run by some of the nicest and most knowledgeable farmers I've come across yet. Tomm, Trilby, Jae, and Kerry were fantastic to work with and taught me so much in the time I was there. I believe wholeheartedly that the vegetables tasted even better because they were harvested with laughter and smiles.

We've been members of this CSA since they started and it is great! We get high quality produce. Standard offerings plus interesting new things. The farmers are friendly and knowledgable. And, pickup is easy! I love having fresh veggies all year round! And the farm is only a short drive from my Ann Arbor home.
