I love the "Locals Only" market at Penny Lane. I have gone each week and it continues to grow. Beautiful local vegetables and fruits, and the actual farmers who grow them, right there. It's wonderful to know who is putting food on your table and to be able to have a conversation with them. I was able to ask the farmers questions about how the items I bought were grown. How cool is that? Last year we shopped the other market and there were produce resellers on the corners who clearly shipped things in, but were telling people they were local. :-( I thought farmer's markets were for local farmers? Anyway, I like the added touch of having artists and artisans at the locals only market. It is a wonderful atmosphere and we'll continue to support it. Thank you for bringing this event to Evansville!

This market is less than a month old and every week since it opened there are more vendors and more variety. I like the fact that I can buy produce here knowing it's locally grown by the people who are selling it -- which is definitely NOT the case at the other E'ville downtown market.
When I go to a farmers market I want my experience to be a pleasure, and not full of suspicion about the origins of the produce. I want to be able to trust that the vendors are REAL producers with a stake in the local community, not people who bought produce at the wholesale market and are trying to pass it off as locally grown. This market may be small, but I can shop here with confidence. That's what makes it my Saturday go-to market, and I'm loving watching it grow.

I've gone every Saturday since it started and am really excited for tomorrow - 2,3 more farmers! I think that considering it has only been in existence at all for 3 wks it's doing great! The 1st week I think they had more show than expected and each week since there has been more variety and more qty.
Rainbow swiss chard, red onions, peaches, blackberries, thyme, oregano, cantaloupe, sweet corn, tomatoes, yellow squash, papaya pear squash, carrots, sweet peppers, I'm sure I'm forgetting something but that is only what I have personally purchased - not everything that's available. I think this market is great! And I think having a "local farmers market" that allows half of the goods to be shipped in is a great disrespect to the people that live here and buy and/or grow fresh local food.

The Farmer's Market next to Penny Lane is just beginning!! = ) Compared to the other farmer's market- it's pretty swell!
They always sell out before 2pm which is wonderful for the farmers.
The other farmer's market on 2nd street- isn't local. they truck in some of their items. i don't understand how they could give it a local feel if this is so.
also- at first they weren't even letting some local farmer's sell their products. with much protesting and what nots they finally let local farmer's sell!
even though the real local market is small... give it a chance. and some time. new people show up often!
much love and live light!
