1. Wide selection - dry farmed apricots - the way they used to be; Japanese vegetables; raw milk 2. Vendors who take the time to explain how they make the honey; how they deal with pests and weather; how to prepare the food; they care - and you know how fresh your food is. 3. Open year-round

The University District Farmers Market offers a huge variety of fresh produce--vegetables & fruit--as well as artisanal baked goods, seafood, meat, cheeses, and pasta. And it's a real scene and social gathering place.

There is more community building going on in this packed space than anywhere else in the world. Love the Seattle Youth Gardenworks booth!

It has been a great community builder since its inception. Every Saturday thousands of people visit the market, many of whom may not otherwise come to the area. Once there, besides enjoying a great variety of items to buy and getting a chance to meet the growers, they often migrate to other businesses in the area, creating a nice ripple effect.

The U-District Farmer's Market brings vitality and a renewed sense of community to our neighborhood every Saturday! People love to browse and connect with each other and the farmers. In our very urban environment, it's a great place to get a taste of nature. I always come away feeling nourished in many ways - by the crowd, the music, the lovely and lovingly grown food, the stunning flowers. Makes one glad to be alive, surrounded by living things!

I love all Farmers Markets. It's hard to choose just one of the Markets in Seattle, but I'm going with the University Farmers Market, which is nearest me and truly a pleasure to shop. I'm 84 and have witnessed major changes in the way food is produced and sold. University Farmers Market is a source of happy nostalgia for me with it's friendly vendors and wonderful local organic produce and products.

I started shopping at farmers markets years ago in Wisconsin. I live north of "UDub" and attended it so I like getting into that neighborhood occassionally. Though small, the UFM has outstanding selection and prices. I never really tasted an apple until I bought some there years ago - and became hooked. The Asian vegetables are the most reasonably priced I've found anywhere. And on a cool, sunny day it's just a really fun place to visit.

the food, the farmers....it all is so intoxicatingly beautiful and satisfying. I like that it is mostly just food/farmers. not so much crafty stuff.

It is great all the time. We love veggies from Billy's, fish from Loki, goat cheese from Port Madison Farms.

I love buying fresh produce grown locally as well as all the other products that are available there, e.g., bread, cheeses, meats. The University District FM is close and is less crowded than our city's more famous market.

This FM is the closest to my house and I love buying the produce, bread, cheese, honey, confections....everything they have to offer. Recently, I turned a sprig of basil that I stuck in a glass of water into a viable plant...now that's fresh!! (I stuck a sprig from QFC into the same glass and it didn't fare so well...)

It is the consummate market in Seattle, with the longest history and the broadest selection of farmers.

Close to my house, but it's one of the oldest in Seattle and the quality and diversity of vendors is fantastic - they're so dedicated to making sure you kow about what they're selling, giving you recipes and tips. They want you to enjoy what they grow. There's such an amazing diversity of products - it's a whole experiece - plus live music, community atmosphere, very fun and festive.

This hugely diverse farmers market has everything: fruits, vegetables, plants, baked goods, eggs, cheese, seafood, meats, jams, honey, etc. It promotes family farms and small artisanal food producers. And what a great place to people watch and meet up with friends! One of the places that makes Seattle great!

My 5-year-old son has learned so much about where his food comes from and what real, fresh, good food tastes like. The growers are so kind and clearly passionate about what they do, despite the hard work and enormous risks they take.

Located in the heart of the U-District, it promotes healthy living to young college students. The venders are super friendly, and it's just such an exciting, bubbly atmosphere all year. I look forward to going there every Saturday morning, no matter HOW late I stayed up the night before...and for a sociable junior in college...that's saying something

I actually love all of the Seattle Farmers Markets, but the U-District one is my favorite because they are open all year round. In the winter time, we think that there are not a lot of good vegetables, but that is not true. Nash has a great selection of winter root vegetables for roasting. I also love getting my Saturday breakfast treats of either a kolach from the Little Prague Bakery or a chocolate and banana brioche from the Belle Epicurean.

There's fabulous variety, combined with a dynamic group of shoppers and vendors! This market is proof of the commitment Seattlites have to local food and small farms.

They are my local market (in my neighborhood) and they do a great job of having only farms and food producers (no crafts). Not that crafts are bad, but I use farmers markets as my 'grocery store' so having only farms is excellent!

Farmers Markets save the environment by not have to truck produce around the county. Further the food is fresher and it supports the farmers with a fairer price for their food due to no middlemen. Lastly, its fun to get to know the people who spend their precious time so that we can have healthy, vital food....

I love this market! I go every Saturday right when it opens up for the best selection. It can be very crowded on sunny days with lots of shoppers. I love all the produce, pastured milk and meats, artisanal cheeses, etc!
