Even though I no longer live in Madison, it is FAR IN AWAY the best farmers market I've even been to including some that are currently at the top of the voting list, like Carrboro, NC, that is nice, but can't shake a stick (or tomato) at the DIVERSITY of produce that is ALL LOCAL at the DCFM.

Strict rules. Only farmers are able to sell product, not hired staff, so you are always guaranteed to meet the farmer. Only food is allowed for sale at the market. It truly is a "farmers' market", unlike others that just use the name.

I've been to farmers' markets all over the country - as a consumer and as a farmer. Dane County Farmers' Market is easily the best in terms of the quality of the food and the producers, the variety and size, and the inclusiveness and friendliness of the atmosphere.

I love all the local growers. This farmer's market really supports community based agriculture. It enforces the idea that what affects one grower affects the community. It's wonderful to get to know the people who farm in this region, what can be grown here, and to keep the money we spend local.

The farmer's market on the Capitol Square has a wonderful selection of locally grown foods and it's year-round. It's awesome to be able to shop the farmer's market for local organic produce, meat, and dairy from Wisconsin in the winter!!!!! It's one of the best reasons to live in Madison. Once you taste the difference between local and store bought produce, you won't go back. Madison has the best farmer's markets and community supported agriculture I've seen. They even serve breakfast made with and showcasing ingredients from the market. Yum!

We love the Dane County (Madison) Farmers Market. You will never lack finding what you want. The variety of vendors is wonderful, and so knowledgeable. The kids and myself love to attend and make a day of it, each week with a homeschool field trip when possible. Farm fresh veges, great cheeses, always different kind of items as the seasons change.

We've been going to market since it began. When our kids were little we sold plants and produce. They remember playing on the Capitol grounds, distributing literature for Bob Kastenmeier for Congress and earning money for the plants they sold. Now, with our kids grown and living in the area, we attend with them and our grandchildren. It's a highlight of our week.

I know of people who come from all over Wisconsin to experience the Dane County Farmer's Market. Set beautifully around our state's capitol, we have a very large selection of local produce, meats, dairy, breads, jams, honey, flowers, etc. In fact, we now even have vendors of soaps, coffee, juice, jewelry, candles, etc. setting up shop on State Street during the market hours. Oh, and we can't forget the balloon tying entertainers. It's not a circus because the patrons take their food seriously, but we do like to have a good time. In the winter, we continue the market in doors. Obviously, there are less fresh vegetables but we can still get fresh meat, eggs, bakery, and dairy. Each Farmer's Market Saturday is like a breath of fresh air and it makes me want to get down town on Wednesday to pick up something I may have missed on Saturday.

I support the Dane County Farmer's Market because here in Madison it's all about locally grown. My aunt and uncle are organic farmers who sell at the Farmer's Market which adds another level to my devotion to the Farmer's Market. There's nothing like getting up early to go down to the Market on the Square here in Madison. The hustle and bustle, the amazing scents of fresh produce, breads, pastries, cheeses, herbs, and flowers are exciting and comforting all at once. There is nothing like buying breakfast and sitting to eat it with my family on the grass in the shade of a tree on the lawn of the capitol building.

I love the Dane County Farmer's Market not only for the bountiful offerings of fresh, local, often organic goods. What I think really makes this farmer's market unique is the way it has been incorporated into the fabric of the community. Local restauranteers promote with pride their DCFM-sourced ingredients. In the winter the farmer's market breakfasts give local star and aspiring chefs a chance to demonstrate how they can make these wonderful ingredients sing. There are hands-on kids-events that allow kids and parents alike the change to get their hands dirty and learn about growing food. The community and the market thrive together!

I've visited lots and lots of markets, including (early in the season) the front-running Flint Market, but Dane County's is the best -- great location, lots and lots of choices with a surprisingly small amount of duplication, friendly farmers, a "community" feel... I could go on and on.

From fruit cobbler (Monday's combination of strawberries, raspberries and blueberries came from the market) to the amazing rib roast we had for Christmas dinner from John and Dorothy Priske's humanely raised highland cattle, the Farmer's market helps define our quality of life in Madison, and makes Wisconsin's environment healthier and more productive fore all.

Madison's Farmers' Market is well known nationally, and for good reason. Variety and top quality--exquisite produce, gorgeous bouquets, excellent cheese, honey, jam, smoked fish. We have friendly vendors and an excellent vibe. Only prob. is that it is SO popular that walking and carrying loads of food around a crowd can be tricky. The effort is totally worth it--Madison can be very proud of this central city market. Vote for Madison, people!

You can tour the Capitol Building when the kids get antsy. You can walk to the lake nearby and picnic on the foods you bought (assuming you don't eat them as you walk through the market!) One of our favorite purchases is Hot Spicy Cheese Bread from Stella's Bakery. YUM!!! They warm it up for you if you'd like too. I love the atmosphere of Madison. Parking is easy to find too.
