Very good store in the beginning months when it first opened. Has gone downhill steadily since then. Now its very common to find bad produce: very soft tomatoes with turned spots, moldy onions and garlic, shriveled looking peppers. When its brought to their attention, they turn a blind eye. I go in the next week...same thing with the tomatoes. I finally asked for a discount on some of the better looking soft ones because I didn't want to have to make another trip to another store just to get tomatoes nor did I want to pay almost $5 per pound for the "organic" tomatoes. I was told rudely "No, we can't discount those!" I also pulled several expired items out of the freezer section! But the next week when I went in, there were the soft tomatoes again at full price! As well as the expired frozen items. The expired frozen items were actually discounted but I'm not sure who they expected would buy them?? The 2nd week I tried, I simply walked out, so they lost $75 from one person. I figure if I have to get good produce and frozen items and go to Shaw's anyways to get it, then I may as well do the rest of the weeks shopping there too. I'm not going to keep going to 2 different stores because the Co-op just can't seem to get their act together. I don't have time to shop 2 stores.

Don't "assume" anything. And No, I'm not an intentional flamer....Since this store came to town its been HIGH prices and somewhat rude staff. I was buying a supplement about a month ago and happened to casually ask the cashier if she'd heard anyone say anything about it or if she knew anything about it. She practically snapped "I don't know, I don't use it!" in a tone that suggested that she just wants me to pay for it and leave, not have to answer any questions about anything. Watch your receipt...I've found loose spinach rung up as basil before and shittake mushrooms rung up as portabello's and vice versa. I've tried several times to give this store a chance but 8 out of 12 times they've been rude or indifferent. My friends sister stopped shopping there because her receipts have been incorrect too many times.

Misty, I assume you are one of those internet flamers who exists solely for the purpose of creating discord; all smoke and no substance. I shouldn't even bother to acknowledge your post with a response, but I must add the following. I shop at the Littleton Food Cooperative Market several times each week. This store grew as a community effort with a beautiful ideal; to have a place where local producers could sell their wares to local citizens, enriching the business community, economy and commerce without sacrificing quality to profitability. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and is always willing to lend a hand or offer a suggestion. The produce department, above all, is superb and is second to none. What surprises me most about the previous post is the negative comments about the produce. Believe me, I know produce, having been in the farming industry for decades. These folks cull and select from local farmers, as well as the more regional suppliers like AG of New England and Black River Produce. If they don't think it is up to snuff, they send it back before it even hits the shelves. Their staff is always on the floor, walking the racks, checking the product from open till close. What you get from this store is quality, pure and simple, unlike certain corporate stores that I will not mention. I challenge anyone reading these reviews to check it out for themselves, morning or night - you will not be disappointed. I see business growing in this little market with every month that passes. The diversity of the product mix has gotten more and more impressive, and the management seems to enjoy the feedback from their customers... I've even seen a few items that I suggested find their way onto the regular shelf stock! The selection of shoppers crosses a wide spectrum as well - this is not a "rich person" or "hippie" store by any means. Good food at decent prices with an assortment of choices... non-profit with the money staying in the community and any surplus going back to the members - sounds like a winning combo to me! I'd think that by now, the 4000 or so members would have noticed the things mentioned by the previous poster, if any of it were true. Sounds like something that was posted in retaliation by an ex-employee or apprehended shoplifter, in my opinion. Too bad the internet is so anonymous. Simple solution - don't read these silly reviews - check it out for yourself. Easy enough - I know you won't be disappointed!

If you are looking for fresh food and friendly service, the Littleton Co-op is the place. When you enter the store, everyone is so friendly. All the aisle have lots of local products. It is nice to see a small store support so many of the local people. I am really proud to have this store in the area.
