Good food and fab farm tour
By: Connie Hunter    (Jan 2, 2014)

Today I visited Winfield Farms in Fairfax County, VA. I was on the hunt for farm fresh, local eggs. I called this week and was offered a tour. Drew guided me all around the farm. The chickens met us at the gate and followed us to the coop and then over to another gate. They have free range in a large enclosure. I got to see the pigs, the cows, the horses and the new mushroom garden. There was a new greenhouse where sprouts (micro-greens) are being grown. There were chicks and quails under heat lamps.

When I got home I had a delicious omelet made from the eggs I purchased. I also bought some breakfast sausage and a grass-fed steak, great for this weekend's meals.

This farm is definitely worth the little bit of extra time and money in order to partake of organic, local, fresh food directly from the farm! They can count me as a regular shopper. Happy New Year! Hurray for 2014!
