I'm from Columbus where we have several of what are called "Farmer's Markets." I am often in New Carlisle on weekends & enjoy the authenticity of this TRUE local Farmer's market. All the growers, crafters, & sellers know each other. The produce is brought in from a couple miles away packed on ice in coolers in the back of pickup trucks! I love it.
In some of the Columbus markets I've spoken w/vendors who come from 90+ miles away & if you look at the back of their stalls you'll see a good deal of their produce is packed in boxes from produce companies from THEIR local area, not grown by them. So there is really no way of knowing where the produce came from. I understand they want to provide a wide variety & probably the market in Columbus demands it but I much prefer the in-season, locally grown, fruits & vegetable, the jams and jelly & the neighboring woodworkers, florists & crafting people who come together each week like a busy little community. Love coming to New Carlisle for this.
