This is the first year for a farmers market on Fort Leonard Wood. Most military installations do not have farmers markets. The Pulaski County Sheltered Workshop did a great job in working with the fort to get the program rolling and marketed. The farmers brought a nice variety of products to the market. The fort provided a very accessible venue for the market. The local Master Gardeners manned an informative booth for both adults and children, and local musicians added to the festive spirit of the market. The community turnout was great, and every farmer I talked with indicated that they would be back next year. Marie and I were very pleased with the great selection of local produce, meats (even bison), cheese, breads, and jams. A real home run for military families and local farmers.
