I've been a vendor at Cotton Mill for several years. I love the atmosphere and comradraderie of the small town market place, and I especially like dealing with the customers in west Georgia. Its just a friendly, down-to-earth and fun get together, as much a social event as a marketplace.

They are always fresh and quality fruits and vegetables available. All the farmers are very friendly and knowledgable. They keep in contact with us by e-mail which is a great help knowing what will be available each week...so we can plan our menus ahead of time if necessary. I also feel considering the quality ...the prices are very fair and affordable.

I love our Farmer's Market. It is one of the highlights of my year to stroll from booth to booth, drinking a nice strong cup of coffee, purchasing locally grown and produce goodies and chatting with friends while music plays and children run. The market always has music or a demonstration. It is truly a community experience. It is one of the top reasons I love living in our great city.

Not only do the dedicated farmers and other marketers provide healthy, high quality products, they also provide an invaluable educational service. Information about sustainable, ecologically healthy practices is also a crucial commodity. To be able to get great products and to learn about where they came from and how they were produced helps people make good choices about what they eat and even how they live. CMFM makes the community a better place.

It is convenient to where I live. There is a variety of foods to choose from; particularly pasture-fed beef and pork. The honey vendor was particularly helpful when I had bees infesting my house siding. All vendors are friendly and willing to answer any questions. There is a nice sense of community at this market. The vegetables, foods, and gift items are great! I really like the newsletter that is put out, as it is extremely helpful in preparing my weekly purchases and keeps me on track for eating as organic as possible.

I love the atmosphere of an open market where one may visit with friends, both customers and venders. We have a most interesting community of folks who are into growing and cooking locally grown produce. Where else can one find an avocado seed handcarved necklace and organic granola that is to die for. I open mine and go around offering a taste to my friends....and the fresh corn and earlier the sugar snaps...and the accordian music by an authentic Frenchman.....Yes, he is imported, but he's a natural.

Early every Saturday morning during the summer growing season, my husband and I walk the block to the farmer's market excited about what produce and flowers we might find there. We buy all our produce for the week there and even have recipes that we have collected there and elsewhere that take full advantage of the summer bounty of fresh fruits and vegetables as well as the fresh meats and cheese and other products we find there. We usually buy fresh flowers to complete our shopping trip. We look forward each year to opening day!

Locally grown food is healthier - few chemicals, follows macrobiotic ideas about eating what is in season, helps local farmers, feeds the local economy, is a great social event unlike any supermarket. Growing food should not be a global, corporate enterprise.

The majority of the produce is organic, and I can taste the difference! Everything is super fresh. Farmers get up in the very early a.m. to be sure we have fresh-picked fruits and/or veggies. This market has everything from goat cheese to a zillion different types of tomatoes, peppers, pink-eyed peas, goat milk soap, all types of beans, edamame(:-), squash, corn, etc. But above all, these people are so delightful in sharing their knowledge in helping the small-time gardener learn how to improve his/her own small garden. Early bird gets the worm, though! All the lettuce in the hot summer goes early!

I eat and grow locally sustainable food and the Market is the best avenue to get it into the hands of the people. Locally grown not only saves time and money for the buyers and brings us great food, but saves tremendous costs of trucking in produce from who-knows-where; not to mention "we know where you live - err - grow !!" ha-ha-ha The Cotton Mill FM has grown so much and delivers so much to our community, it is hard to envision our area with-out it now ! As some have mentioned, it is now a Sat morn social ritual as well as a shopping mecca.

The fresh food just tastes better than store-bought vegetables, fruit, eggs, cheese. Vendors sometimes give recipes and encouragement to try new dishes using their fresh vegetables. Last week Hager/Crager Farm suggested we try an omelet with the sorrell we were buying - and it was the best omelet of the year. And the market is an enjoyable social event to kick off the weekend.

I am an avid supporter of locally grown food, organically grown, and the farmers at the cotton mill market are more than happy to tell you about the nature-based methods they use in growing their food. I have heard about bunny manure, and chicken and horse too of course. These farmers work hard at taking good care of the land, rotating crops, natural fertilizer and pest-control methods. There is even hormone and antibiotic free pork, and beef. They are hard working people who are doing the right thing for the rest of us who are extremely appreciative! Veronica Pelaez
