This is our first experience with the CSA concept. It has been awesome and we will definitely be signing up for the next block. We keep a google spreadsheet of what we have received each month and we are hovering aroung $5.50 a pound for our meat. Now, that may be a little expensive for ground beef, but its a steal for lamb chops! On top of the value, the quality is far superior to what you buy in the grocery store. Even the ground beef just tastes better! We both can tell when we have the fresh eggs for breakfast too. I concur with the other post about the chickens too, they are so juicy and flavorful.

I also really enjoy the open door policy on seeing how the animals live and are cared for. They really care for their animals and treat them well. I know that I will always eat meat and it makes a difference to know that the source of that meat lead a happy and comfortable life. The owners of Country Haven will gladly show you around and even let you hold a chicken if you are so inclined! We can't say enough good things about this farm!

We've been a part of this CSA for 6 months now and have really enjoyed it! Every month we get about $25 of chicken, $25 of beef, $25 of pork and $25 of lamb. The variety has been good and is perfect for our family (2 adults, 1-2 children). We cook meat about 2 times per week and then eat leftovers or vegetarian the rest of the week. We have loved everything except the processed meat, but the farm is getting to know us and our preferences and they have been limiting our share of that now.

The chickens have been huge and very juicy. We have been getting 3 meals out of every chicken! Really, all the meat has been delicious. My husband especially enjoys the lamb which is from a variety of sheep that is about a year old when killed. We really feel that this is essential for enjoying lamb and not feeling guilty.

Another reason we chose this CSA is because two farms have teamed up to give you a great variety of meat. Because the meat comes frozen SOLID, you have to plan your meals more carefully. The chickens usually take 3-4 days to thaw. Roasts without bones about 3 days. Smaller items 1-2 days in the fridge. I know we are spending less. Planning better and of course eating healthier too.

Anything you want to know the farm will tell you. You can order extra meat to your specifications also. This October we got a turkey! It was smaller, but their first attempt at growing them. I am excited to be a part of that!

After reading multiple books on factory farming joining a meat CSA is the only way I will continue to eat meat. In November 2009, a book called "Eating Animals" is coming out by Jonathan Saffron Foer and it tells the whole story. I also recommend Michael Pollen's books too!

I would highly recommend this meat CSA to anyone who eats meat!
