The Capitol Market is a lovely spot to take a walk and catch some lunch if you work downtown BUT the Capitol Market lacks for local/organic sustainable products.

This is a "gentrified" market meant more for the uptown wine and cheese crowd looking for lunch and some slick looking goodies to take home for dinner than it is for "folks" interested in local products and sustainability. The year-round shops are all indoors and all pretty pricey. Still, I would really miss this market if it disappeared.

During the growing season there are a few "standouts," including Roane Grown Nursery. Last season there were some organic products available. Today there were some ramps for sale at the Purple Onion! Things are (slowly) improving.

If you are in downtown Charleston during the weekday lunch hour stop in for lunch and have a nice walk. It's a downtown oasis.

I haven't been overly impressed with this market. They sell a lot of stuff indoors and out but it's more stuff then produce. Produce is only available in the summer. Apples are the only thing I can afford there. Disappointed.

Supports the local farmers/growers so good for the local economy, reduces long distance shipping so good for the environment, good fresh produce & products so good for the people!

Outside in Spring it is lovely plants and flowers and in Summer it's great produce, Fall brings the last of the fresh produce and flowers again, then it's time for the fresh Christmas trees! Inside is year round produce, wines, books, gifts, meats and fish! Great place!

This Farmer's Market is fantastic- open all week, so it becomes a real community meeting spot for the city. A restaurant, wine shop, coffee shop, chocolate shop and other indoor amenities are nearby and help bring life to the market. Comfy, WV made seats make it easy to linger and watch the action.

The Capitol Market in Charleston is more than just a place to buy fresh produce and food. It supports many statewide businesses by having their products on their shelves. Charleston's Capitol Market supports and helps represent a typical day in West Virginia; the people are friendly, the service is amazing, and above all else they take so much pride in knowing products come from West Virginia it's really astonishing.
