The market has all local farmers who bring their produce in from their nearby farms. There is a wide selection, and you can talk to the farmers about how they grow the food they're selling. Also, every week there are special events going on - musical performers, a salsa-making contest, tomato sampling, etc.

Well managed, great location, friendly-informed-but-not-pushy vendors, and best variety of fresh local produce, flowers, and local meats I have ever encountered at an American farmers' market - and I have been to quite a few. Everything is clearly from local/regional farms - no industrial produce faking it as locally grown. And fresh local food is plentiful, as opposed nic-nacs and crafty items. Great mix of people attending every weekend.

The Lawrence Farmers Market paints a unique picture of the midwest farmland, complete with seasonal specialties such as asparagus, tomatoes, berries, and corn and a meat-heavy offering of local and organic products. Especially unique is the opportunity to visit many of the farms and pick-your-own produce or see massive bison up close as they graze in an open field.
