When I first moved here in 1977 I worked a plant stall for Mr. Weaver in front of Wertz's store which is now home to Horizon's Restaurant. I sold flowers and plants Mon - Fri. I was fortunate to be able to see the market place come back to life. And I've been going every Saturday I can ever since.

The downtown market flourishes with new life each season. It encourages farmers and artisans to work together, offering customers great prices, extensive produce selections, and excellent meat and poultry choices. My young son and I walk the market almost every day and are greeted by the farmers' and artisans' smiles each time. And the honey. Oh, the honey that I can get for my tea and baking! Delicious goodness!

They're part of who we are as a City. The fruits and veggies are second to none and we need to support our local farmers.

Everyone in Roanoke loves our City Market. There is a fine selection of produce in every category. Food is always very fresh and presented in beautiful stalls and containers. Farmers are all very friendly. The market is also open on Sundays. Parking is conveniently available. I always take friends from out of town to the market on Saturday morning.

It is a great place for fresh produce, baked goods, meats, flowers, plants - you name it. Even in the rain it is a fun place to be. You never know what you will find. The last time I was there there were rescued Greyhounds for adoption!

The market brings all sorts of people together from all over the area. It's a hopeful place that's always busy crafting the future. Roanoke has vision. Roanoke has direction. Roanoke knows that we grow together.

I love this place! It is vibrant and lively. I am lucky to work downtown and be able to shop during lunch. Saturdays are busy and full of life. The flowers are always the best. I am convinced that it is the best spinach available in the Roanoke Valley.

If you are visiting the valley go, if you live here go. So many different things to see and buy.
