To sign up for our CSA visit, http://www.schoolyardfarms.org/csa/

Our mission to educate youth about health and nutrition through hands-on experience in the garden is made possible by the financial support of our CSA members. Therefore, by becoming a member of our CSA you are supporting the core values and programs of our non-profit farm and helping to change the way we think about, purchase and eat food.

Schoolyard Farms’ CSA is also unique because our shares are sized individually, allowing you to design the ideal share for you or your family. One share is enough for one person who eats a moderate amount of vegetables in a week (about 5 small bunches of vegetables). If you eat a lot of vegetables, we recommend two shares per person. For a family, we recommend 3-4 shares, etc.

What are Schoolyard Farms growing practices?

We are dedicated to managing the land responsibly and ecologically. That means we don’t use any chemicals, pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. We avoid disturbing the soil as much as possible by farming by hand, implementing conservation tillage systems when needed, planting cover crops and planting “wild” perennial spaces. We manage pests through crop rotations and integrated pest management systems, including pollinator buffers that serve as habitat for beneficial insects. We have decided not to be certified organic because the costs associated with the certification are too great for the size of our organization.

What am I getting?

20 weekly shares from June – October of fresh, responsibly and locally grown vegetables.

You can expect 5 small bunches of vegetables like these in each share during the season:

Early Summer: Tender greens (arugula, mizuna, spinach and much more), small roots (french breakfast radishes, hakurei turnips), snap peas, green garlic, cilantro, etc.

Late Summer: Heirloom tomatoes, asian eggplants, sweet and spicy peppers, crisp summer squash, bunching onions, basil, head lettuce, beets, cabbage, cauliflower, etc.

Fall: Nutty storage squash, potatoes, storage onions, garlic, beans, carrots, parsnips, celeriac and we’ll return to the flavors of the greens and small roots from spring that love growing in cooler fall air.

Check out the blog and see pictures of last season’s shares.

How much does it cost?

Each share costs $275 for the entire season. Decide how many shares you or your family will need and multiply by $275.

Payment Options?

We will be accepting all payments in full. However, if you need to pay in installments, let us know and we can arrange a payment plan.

We accept SNAP as a form of payment! If you would like to purchase your share through SNAP, let us know when filling out our CSA Application and we will contact you to discuss how using SNAP with a CSA works.

Schoolyard Farms mission is to create healthier communities by teaching kids how to grow nutritious food that goes from their schoolyard to their plate. We achieve this mission by building farms on schoolyards, integrating the farm into the classroom and creating access to the food by selling it to CSA members and circling it back to the school cafeteria. By becoming a member of our CSA you are making our educational programs possible.
