SCLT is a Providence-based, non-profit organization that promotes urban agriculture and educational food-growing programs. Since 1981, Southside Community Land Trust (SCLT) has been a forceful change agent for community food security, providing land, education, tools, and support for people to grow food for themselves in greater Providence, Rhode Island. SCLT owns or directly manages 21 community gardens in Providence, Pawtucket and Central Falls, and partners with schools, housing and community organizations to manage another 37. We also own or manage land used by 25 farmers to supply fresh fruits and vegetables to farmers markets, food businesses, restaurants and CSAs. Lastly, we operate three production farms in Providence and Pawtucket where we practice and demonstrate bio-intensive, small-scale agricultural production. SCLT serves over 750 families that come from a background of diverse cultures and ethnicities including Hmong, Laotian, Cambodian, Dominican, Puerto Rican, Nigerian, Liberian and African. SCLT's goal is to make fresh, nutritious food abundant and affordable so that everyone in our state, regardless of income, can eat well and live well.
