Thames Farm is your source for Natural Berkshire Pork, nestled on 82 acres just outside of Fort Lawn, SC in Chester County. Thames Farm provides a safe, all-natural home to breed, farrow and raise Registered Berkshire hogs humanely with no added hormones or unnecessary antibiotics. Our farm raises our hogs the "old-fashioned" way, outside on the pasture where our hogs can exercise, socialize with herd members, root in the ground, wallow in the mud and just plain do what pigs do. We operate a "closed" herd meaning we breed, farrow and raise our hogs until processing without the introduction of "feeder pigs" from other sources or farms. Our breeding is genetically controlled to avoid "inbreeding", which is detrimental to the animal's health and meat quality. Our Pastured Poultry operation is similar in that our chickens are allowed to be chickens. We house them in "mobile units" to protect them from predators. Our chickens get to enjoy the sunshine, eat an assortment of grasses and insects, take dust bathes and socialize with each other with room to move and enjoy life. At Thames Farm we also raise Dorper and Katahdin Hair sheep for our lamb products. The Dorper and Katahdin are hair breeds that have been developed for sweet and luscious tasting lamb. Our philosophy is a simple one: HUMANE FARMING. We do not practice any confinement with our pigs and our poultry are raised only in the seasons that allow us to keep them out on pasture. We closely control our feeding, handling and care until the day of processing. We use the only Certified Animal Welfare Approved processing facility in S.C. This allows us to know that our animals are treated as humanely as possible during the period of processing.
