2016 Summer Produce Share

The Summer Produce Share includes 20 weeks of pickups from late spring through early fall every Sunday at the Hyde Park Farmers' Market in Cincinnati or downtown in Madison, IN. We operate our CSA using the Market Style CSA model. Here's how it works:

Each week, you have the opportunity to "shop" for your share. Unlike traditional CSA programs, in which you receive a pre-packed assortment of produce, you may pick and choose the items for yourself.

Shares are paid for in full at the beginning of the season. Then, based on the share size you have selected, we add a percentage to your CSA investment (see website for details).

It is the responsibility of each member to use up their weekly allotment of credits. In order to prevent an excessive buildup of unused credits, members must be sure to spend their weekly average at each pickup or those credits will be lost. Unused credits will not carry over from week to week. For example, small share size members may spend up to $20 at each pickup. Using the honor system, it will be up to each member to ensure that they are within their spending limits each week.

To accommodate vacations and days that members are unable to pickup, we allow members to miss up to four days throughout the summer program and not lose their weekly credits. Based on how many days are missed, members may choose up to four makeup days during which "double credits" may be used. So, for example, a small share "double day" will be $40 of spending. We will track makeup days using an attendance sheet each week.

In order to give each member the opportunity to have a full selection to choose from, items that we anticipate will sell out at our market booth will be reserved at special CSA tables set up for members. This includes eggs.

To ensure that everyone receives their fair share of the popular items that may be chosen more quickly, or if yields are low a particular crop, we will set share size-based limits on certain items. The flip side of this is that members will be offered discounts on items that we have an abundance of.
