Welcome to the 7th generation of Thurston Farms! Our family has been raising various crops and animals on the same ground for well over 100 years. In farming, everyday seems like a new adventure and we are excited to share this one with you!
We are currently offering pork available directly to you from the source. There are several options available year round, usually. Unlike most producers who try to have all of their pigs born in Jan and July, we rotate our sows so that our clients can always have a wide selection of fresh pork options. Because this is farming, everything doesn't always work out the way we hope so we cannot guarantee availability of all options at all times. You can, however, reserve a "next-in-line" spot for the next time a package is available.
About our Pigs
Our pigs are grain fed and conventionally raised. We are strong believers in animal welfare and do everything we can to keep all of our animals happy, protected, unharmed, and comfortable. We do not dock tails or notch ears.
Here is a list of our standard options. We will cater to custom requests as well. All prices will vary depending on current market conditions.
Option 1: Grow Your Own
Have no doubt about where your pork came from when you raise it yourself! Never raised pigs before? No worries, we are here to help! We will come out to your place, inspect or help set up your pens and help you establish a strong system for caring for your pigs. We also have feed available as well. Let us help you with the first step of your farming adventures.
Pigs that qualify for this option will range from 5 weeks of age on up. If fed well, pigs can reach full butcher size at 6 months of age.
Option 2: Roasters
Experience fall off the bones pork like you've never had before. This option is usually for someone wanting to serve a large group of people. There are several options to roast a pig including in your home oven, in the ground (our preference), on a spit, on a grill, over a fire, in a roasting box, and more. If you need help, don't be afraid to ask. Let our experience guide you to the most delicious meat you'll ever taste!
Pigs that qualify for this option will range from 8 weeks of age on up.
Option 3: Fill the Freezer
Imagine a supply of fresh pork readily available at your fingertips. These are pigs that we have raised to full size and they're ready for your freezer. Have them cut and wrapped by a butcher of your choice. We do have a working relationship with a local butcher if you would like a recommendation, but you are not obligated to use them.
These pigs are available in halves or whole options. Quantity of meat depends on the size of the pig, but a whole pig usually puts about 120-140 pounds of meat in your freezer. If you want more meat from the same pig, we can grow them larger.
