Our pigs are a mix of traditional farm breeds that were common in the early- to mid-1900's, including Berkshire, Duroc, Chester White, Gloucester Old Spot and Hampshire. We sell both feeder pigs and butcher hogs.
Our cattle are miniature Herefords or mini Hereford crosses. Our sheep are Sheltland-Icelandic crosses. Both the cattle and sheep are smaller than conventional breeds.
During the warm season, our livestock graze on pasture, which makes up roughly a third of the farm. During the cold season or in periods of drought, we feed hay to all the animals, most of which is raised on the farm. If we need to buy hay, we buy it from other local farmers.
We custom blend pig and poultry grain rations on the farm. Our goal is to raise as much of the grain as we can; we purchase additional corn and oats from the local feed mill. The grain we raise is non-GMO.
We plant and harvest corn, hay, oats, triticale and wheat. We rotate crops so no crop is raised in the same field more than once every few years or so. Every field is fallow or grazed by pigs at least once in that period.
We manage the fields without pesticides, herbicides or synthetic fertilizer. The animals provide manure to fertilize the crops. Likewise, we raise our animals as naturally as possible, treating only when necessary. The feed is hormone-free and non-medicated.
In addition to raising and selling livestock, we donate meat to local food banks. We have donated pork to lockers in Augusta, Cornell and Jim Falls.
When you purchase finished pigs, cattle or lambs from us, you support two businesses: the farm and the locker. Thank you.
