CSA: COMMUNITY SUPPORTED AGRICULTURE
CSAs are a great way for you to eat locally, seasonally, and diversely. Every farm runs their CSA differently. We focus on diversity and quality. We try to grow varieties of veggies and herbs that you just cant find at the grocery store. Of course youll get familiar veggies too. Above all, we care for the land using sustainable biodynamic practices that ensure youre getting wholesome food every week.
We have a limited number of CSA shares for each season. As we grow, we'll offer more shares. Right now it's looking like we'll have openings for 10 shares per season. We want to make sure everyone gets a fair share and we ensure this by limiting the number of members for each season.
In past years we've accepted weekly payments. We're still accepting this; however we'd like to encourage you to pre-pay for the whole season. This helps us when we need it. Almost all of the expense of a farm are paid well before the veggies have started growing. Pre-paying will be less stressful for you, knowing you just have to pick up your veggies, and it will help keep us in business.
HOW DO I JOIN THE CSA?
You can add a season to your shopping cart, check out and we'll see you at your first pick up! You'll see there are several payment options.
As a member, consider following/liking the farm on Facebook and/or Instagram because this is how you'll know what you're getting. Each week there are new items, we'll post a picture describing what veggies and herbs are in the share.
WHATS IN THE CSA SHARE?
Oh the joys each week brings! It depends on what looks and tastes best on the day we harvest. You will be delighted and surprised. Throughout the seasons youll see a mix of eggs, herbs, root crops, salad greens, cooking greens, and veggies. Youll receive a box/cooler that may have anywhere from 6 to 12 or more items in it. We try to pack enough of each item to prepare for a meal or two, but not so much that youre overwhelmed. Feel free to look at the past pictures on our Facebook and Instagram pages, they say more than I can. This year, there will be times when we give you hand made items for you home. These may take place of some veggies. However, they are a farm made product. I was thinking in the start of the year to give everyone a birdhouse on week. Last year, people received tomato and herb plants to plant in their gardens. These non-food goods are an added benefit that you will not see in many CSA's. HOW DO I GET MY CSA BOX/COOLER?
We encourage you to pick up the veggies on Sunday. The good news is that if you need more time, your veggies will stay fresh for some time. When you join, we set aside and label a cooler just for your family. Each week, we pack your cooler with the veggies and ice. Then we set them in the pick-up area at the farm.
Pick up time starts at 4PM, and you have about 24 hours to unpack your cooler. Mark always sends out a text when the coolers are ready. Usually, the coolers are ready before 4PM. Once you get a text, you're welcome to swing by and get them.
Customers have enjoyed this flexibility, because it gives them a large enough window for someone in the family or a neighbor to swing by. We suggest you bring reusable bags or even your own cooler. We need you to leave the cooler so we can clean and pack it for the next week. Coolers that are left beyond 24 hours will either be donated to a local family, or fed to the chickens. If you want us to leave it outside longer than 24 hours and replace the ice, let us know and we can, but we want you to get it as soon as you can to preserve the quality.
If you are not able to pick up your cooler at all for a week, that's no problem. It would be nice to know this ahead of time. However, the nature of the membership is one in which you are still responsible for paying for that week. We hope you understand that our expenses are the same either way. To make the season profitable, and keeping your local farm in business, we need your constant support.
You may notice an option for Monday delivery. This is for customers who are on my delivery route. You can inquire if you are on this route. (Generally, down 85 through Salem to 166 in East Lyme, 395 to Old Saybrook, 9 North to Deep River). Depending on your location, I may be able to add you to this route.
FLEXIBLE SEASONS AND PRICES
Most CSAs run only in the summer (Late June through September). However, we specialize in extending the growing season. We start harvesting products in May and continue picking fresh veggies and herbs through December. For your convenience, we offer 3 seasons to enter and exit the CSA. We suggest you try all 3 seasons your first year, so you see the full spectrum of flavors the year can provide.
Spring CSA $245 - 7 Week - Sunday May 1st - Sunday June 12th
Summer CSA $350 - 10 Weeks - Sunday June 19th - Sunday August 21st
Fall CSA $595 - 17 Weeks - Sunday August 28th - Sunday December 18th
Full Year CSA - $1190 - 34 Weeks - Sunday May 1st - Sunday December 18th
You can see we have a flat rate of $35 per week. Right now we accept cash, Paypal transfers, or checks made out to Mark Gostkiewicz. Thanks to this site, we now accept debit and credit cards either through the site or in person (however, we loose 3%). All balances must be paid by the last pick up day of the season.
There are times when you may purchase extra food for your box as well like more eggs, extra herbs that were not in the selection that week, more green beans to freeze for the winter. Sometimes we say that we have more, but feel free to ask.
A SMALL DISCLAIMER: WE ARE A FAMILY FIRST AND A FARM SECOND.
Thank you for supporting a small farm. You will get to know us as a family. We have two small children; there are times when family comes first and we cannot provide a CSA harvest for a week. The good news is if we have to cancel a week, we will credit your account or return your $35 to you at the end of the season. So there is no risk for you. We just want you to know there is the possibility that Mark will email/call/text you to say there is no CSA for the week. We will let you know as soon as we can. In the last three years, weve only missed a few weeks. .
