North County Produce is my attempt at a production permaculture inspired farm. On this farm we go above and beyond organic or sustainable. This operation not only provides incredibly tasty and nutritious food for San Diegans, but also acts as a carbon sequestration plant, a wildlife preserve, and a classroom. Things like petrochemical fueled heavy tractors, fertilizers, "-icides", and straight rows planted in one crop are often assumed to be necessary parts of farming. I hope visitors enjoy our polycultural plantings full of wildflowers and medicinal herbs as much as our thriving populations of birds, reptiles, small mammals, and bugs do. This farm began as a vacant compacted dirt lot. With the help of my trusty broadfork, and yard after yard of compost the place is greening up nicely. Besides myself the farm currently employs several hens who help with soil fertility, insect management, and reduction of crop waste. Plus the eggs of course. Whenever possible I source heirloom varieties of crops and save my own seeds (eat your heart out Monsanto). Rather than shying away from unusual crops I find it a thrill to grow foods that haven't yet been embraced by mainstream American cuisine. North County Produce is just an old fashioned neighborhood farm designed as a service to the Fallbrook community. Bring your family and friends to enjoy this beautiful and bountiful garden.
