On June 5th, the Foodshed Alliance will host the grand opening of the Newton Summer Farmers Market along Spring Street in Newton. Dedicated to bringing consumers and farmers together, this one of a kind market will feature locally grown foods, all grown, produced and/or raised within a 25 mile radius of the area. A mid-week market provides an outlet for local food year round, every day of the week. There are already established markets in the area on the weekends so now we can provide yet another opportunity for the community to obtain local, fresh food all in one place and allows many folks who can't get to the market on the weekend another chance to shop while providing farmers with a midweek outlet for their product.
The market; that will run on the sidewalks along Spring Street becomes a true shop local event each week. The town has so much to offer from local food to crafts, books, clothing and more. The Foodshed Alliance in partnership with the Spring Street Business Group is working to challenge the community to commit to patronizing local stores and businesses as well as the farmers market. The idea of building a locally resilient community starts with shopping and eating locally. We want to start by bringing people out together in the spirit of supporting our local economy and further solidifying the sense of community.
Vendors will include everything from meat, cheese and produce to eggs, baked goods, artisan breads, prepared foods and more! The Market will run every Tuesday from 11am-2pm through October and feature a variety of local farmers, artisans, speakers, cooking demos, musicians and children's activities.
