Nestled in the Santa Ynez River valley about three miles west of Buellton on Highway 246, Winfield Farm is dedicated to top quality food that tastes good. Owned and operated by Bruce and Diane Steele, Winfield Farm has been in operation since 2003, serving local restaurants as well as the community. We now specialize in raising rare Hungarian Mangalitsa pigs. Bruce raises our heritage Mangalitsa wooly pigs single-handed, while Diane does the paperwork and marketing. Bruce began raising Manalitsa pigs in 2013 to consume the superabundance that a produce farm inevitably produces. We transitioned away from growing veggies for the public in 2015 as our Mangalitsa herd grew (we now have more than 100 pigs foraging in our fields). Now our mainstay is USDA certified Mangalitsa pork. Mangalitsa wooly pigs are heritage breed lard hogs from Hungary -- fast gaining popularity as the "Kobe beef" of pork. Mangalitsa pork is prized for the tender texture and ruby-red color of its meat, with a high fat content enhancing its robust, magical flavor. Winfield Farm Mangalitsas are raised naturally on pasture, and are fed barley and organically grown pumpkins and squash, much of it grown right here. Winfield Mangalitsas are finished on acorns, walnuts, and almonds when available. Chefs and discerning connoisseurs can now visit our Mangalitsa Market on the Winfield Farm website , where we sell custom processed Mangalitsa products yearlong, depending on availability of market-sized hogs. Visit the Winfield Farm Mangalitsa page for more information on these special wooly pigs. or call us to order this special pork and taste the magic for yourself..

A five-generation native Californian whose roots in farming date back to the 1860s, Bruce Steele has had a lifelong goal to have a farm. His affinity for growing things came naturally, following in the family footsteps. But his interest in the natural world stretches far beyond our fields. Forty years ago he began diving for sea urchins in the ocean off the Santa Barbara coast. Bruce recently retired from diving to raise heritage Mangalitsa pigs (but he still has his urchin permit.)
