Reichert's Dairy Air makes award-winning artisanal cheese using the milk from our own small herd of Nubian and La Mancha dairy goats. As the smallest dairy in Iowa, my aim is to focus on quality. My labor intensive methods produce a delicious, creamy chevre and a mild, milky feta with no "goaty" overtones. I use fresh herbs to flavor the cheese and some flavors are seasonal for this reason. Reichert's Dairy Air cheese is always sold fresh and has never been frozen. For this reason, cheese is unavailable during our goats' "dry" season of January, February and March.
Our goats are allowed free access to pasture and are taken on walks through the woods several times a week. Due to the high energy needs of milk production, they are fed high quality alfalfa hay year round that is certified organic or certified chemical free. Their grain concentrate is not organic, but is of the highest quality.
Our cheese is sold at the Des Moines Downtown Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings, May through October. You can also find it at the Gateway markets in Des Moines, Wheatsfield coop in Ames, New Pioneer Coop in Iowa City and Coralville, the Coffee Connection in Knoxville, and Ulrich's Meats in Pella.
