At Reno Egg, our vision is to provide healthy, fresh eggs to people from all walks of life at affordable prices. As we grow and expand, we will add wind and solar power to the farm, as well as pasture for our birds. We are working towards the goals of obtaining animal welfare and humane certification. Once we are virtually self-sustaining, we anticipate we will be able to reduce our prices for these wonderful eggs to grocery-store levels. Our flock is currently approximately one-half heritage breeds and will be 100% heritage within a few years. Our growth plan also includes breeding, raising and hatching our chicks naturally on our ranch, eliminating the need to buy chicks from hatcheries and have them shipped halfway across the country to us. Our birds are cage-free. They live safely in insulated coops at night and the day kennels provide each bird with a total of 9.5 feet each. They have free run of our entire property every afternoon and evening. It is a lot of fun watching them when it is time for them to go out and play. They know when that time is and can't fly out of the kennels quickly enough when the gates are open. It is quite a sight to see 400 birds rushing the gates, flying and running at top speed to get to their individually preferred destination on the ranch. We do not use any hormones, antibiotics or growth stimulants. As of early September 2010, our birds are just reaching maturity and we are getting more eggs every day. We will be at the Sierra Summit Farmer's Market on September 4 and 11, and will be selling through Great Basin Community Cooperative. Watch our website for other purchasing opportunities. We are currently working with Dish Cafe and Whole Foods Reno regarding retail opportunities through those locations. Dish Cafe and Back of the House Cooking School are using our eggs for their amazing culinary creations. They value local food and we are lucky to have them in our community. If you haven't already, go and try them out. You'll be glad you did. Egg safety is very important to us. We collect our eggs twice a day and refrigerate them right away. The eggs are cleaned the same day they are collected. Assuring freshness and thorough cooking are the two main keys to maintaining a delicious and safe egg. Our freshness goal is to put our eggs on your table within a week of being produced. Thanks for reading. We'd love to hear from you - please check our website and send us an e-mail at the addressed listed. We wish you a healthy day filled with many small miracles, Dawn & Alan
