We've had a really exciting few days here at the farm.
First, we had a conversation with Lesley, who will be joining us on the farm, working with us starting in February, and then moving out here in April. It's really exciting to have another partner in this venture, especially one who is so enthusiastic and energetic about farming. Lesley brings with her experience working on two other organic farms, a large agritourism operation, and another CSA, along with dairy experience (she currently milks two cows at her home near Nixa). She is very interested in expanding our Pastured Beef offerings, and will be working a lot with the gardens as well.
Second, we had our first Core group meeting, which was well attended and productive. We've got a member who will take on webmaster duties, two who will manage a yet to be created blog on Wordpress including recipes and posts from the farmers and members, another who will organize a carpool for one of our pick-up spots, two who will host a pick-up, and one who is handling publicity and sign-ups for our winter CSA. We also ironed out some of the details about the upcoming Summer 2009 CSA. All in all, it is a big relief for Sarah and I, as we never seem to have enough time in the day to do all that needs to be done.
Thirdly, KOLR channel 10 news came out to the farm today and taped a piece which aired on the evening news highlighting our CSA. It was a really nice piece, and it even included a cameo of our oldest daughter, plus some nice shots of greenhouse veggies and a quote from yours truly about reconnecting people to the farm. Lots of fun.
Finally, we are attending a vegetable growers conference this weekend in St. Joseph, MO, with a one day CSA Mini-school. We are excited about the possibility of conversing with other CSA farmers, both to see how they do things, and to possibly find solutions to a few of the problems which vex us.
All in all, a very exciting week on the farm, and a great way to start the new year.
