Slow Life with Real Food

Eating and living mindfully by the beach

Laughing Sheep Farm

Our final farm visit for this round of Bike2Barn occurred in Lincoln, NM at Laughing Sheep Farms. Sally, third generation owner, has a successful country store, restaurant, and farm, all using farm-raised and grass-fed beef, elk, buffalo, lamb, and pork meats. In fact, Guillermo and I were treated to a delightful lunch of homemade cottage cheese (creamy and smooth), gourmet lamb and beef burgers served on homemade hatch chile buns, grilled cantaloupe, potato salad and coleslaw, and cranberry/apple iced tea (hungry yet?).

While we were visiting and eating, we noticed many customers coming and going. Also, we overheard a customer saying that he had found the place from a website called 'Localharvest' (hooray!). Some customers were buying meats, some were stopping for a nice, quiet lunch on the farm, some were picking tomatoes from the small garden to take on the road with them. And, this was off a country road, in the middle of nowhere, all before noon. Sally's belief in quality has helped her create a successful business, and people take notice of that. It was a pleasure to see so many people, of all kinds of backgrounds, enjoying and valuing fresh and local food.

No farm this year...nothing planted. Fruit in store was from sysco foods or shamrock or ben e kieth what ever was cheapest. no hatch green chile in the buns just from sysco foods chile. only the chile buns are made there. the regular buns are store bought. the ONLY meat from the farm is the lamb. ALL other meat is bought outside rattlesnake, quail, alligator, elk, buffalo, grouper, and all othe rmeat. GOODLUCK PROVING IT IS GRASS FED !!!! Nothing there is certified ORGANIC or INSECTICIDE FREE ! With one visit you can see her FORD truck with 500 gallons insecticide sprayer mounted on back cruising the farm spraying god knows what kinda chemicals on the animals and pastures. This is a JOKE and aLIE from the LAUGING SHEEP.
