Miss Effie's Country Flowers and Garden Stuff

Family Farm
This is a U-pick flower farm in rural Iowa. Customers are invited to pick their own bouquets from our large selection of annuals, perennials and herbs. We are now open for the season with hundreds of lilies blooming for you at this time. Come see our "flowers for drying " section -- perfect for crafters! Our flowers are naturally raised with no pesticides or herbicides used. Our ducks roam the gardens -- eating slugs and bugs. Our heritage chickens eat weeds and provide the gardens with rich fertilizers. Butterflies are throughout ....... it is an amazing experience to see on a warm August day. Miss Effie's is a step back in time .... tea cups dance from a tree, antique hankies flutter in the breeze. Six barn quilts grace our buildings. Exciting news this year.... We are now a partner site for the National Heritage area for Agriculture .... Silos and Smokestacks!!! Have your next book club, garden club or bible study here. We welcome any size group to our home. Remember, all activities are outside. Our country gazebo ... a 16' corn crib is set up for your next picnic. Vintage tablecloths flutter in the breeze as the light from our bushel basket chandelier flickers. Available for rent -- it includes use of a gas grill. Relax and enjoy our Grant Wood landscape. Work on the "swoooopy" roofed Summer Kitchen continues but it is open for business all year round ... 9-3 on Friday. EVERYTHING is hand-made and very very local. Miss Effie's jams, knitted dishcloths, market bags and scarves fill the Summer Kitchen. And of course, our very own "Pretty Eggs from Pretty Chickens" are only found at Miss Effie's. We have expanding the Summer Kitchen to feature homemade goods. From hand-spun yarn, ruffled aprons, embroidered tea towels, homemade jam and the occasional baked goods.... its is local at its best. As a busy woman.... the selection changes daily. These are definitely one of a kind creations. Cider pressing tours are available in the fall. We love having company come to call ...... come visit us soon! We are open in season: Thurs -- 9 am to 8 pm (June through August) Fri -- 9am. to 5pm. Sat. -- 9am. to 3pm. Sun. -- 11am.to 3pm And of course, by appointment. Cathy and Cliff Lafrenz (Miss Effie and Honey!)
