We're located on a portion of a 450-acre tract purchased at tax auction for "fifty-two pounds ten shillings" by Joshua Hanson in 1779. Joshua's nephew inherited the property, and his great-grandaughter, Mary Hanson, married Alva McDougal, a cowboy from Deming, New Mexico, hence the McDougal connection. The farm is now protected under a conservation easement facilitated by the Land for Maine's Future program and administered by Maine Farmland Trust. Farmland Forever!
