I've been raising hosta ever since we were the nursery owners of Sugar Creek back in the 80's. Since about 1998 I've sold hosta wholesale and to local customers from my greenhouses at my farm. In the last few years I've also raised more perennials, vegetables, and native plants, which are available at our farm. Last year my son Logan decided to continue in the family "obsession" and has begun a landscaping business, so we now also carry trees and shrubs. Our tradition goes back to my father and mother in-laws who started their nursery and flower shop in the 1950's and which still exists today, run by family members in Cedar Rapids, IA. We pride ourselves on our knowledge of plants and how to grow them. In Kirksville, we can look at trees my husband planted 30 years ago and know what has thrived. We know the plant "fails" and what works size-wise and site-wise over the long term, not just what it says on the nursery pot sticker. In addition to landscaping plants, I have been growing vegetable,herb and flower and native seedlings for sale at the farmers market and at our farm. This year I will have plenty of milkweed varieties to help support Monarch butterfly reestablishment. I also will provide cut flowers and vegetables, especially peppers, as the season progresses. Visitors are welcome by appointment or catch as catch can this spring and summer. We are located at 22365 Crest Trail, about 10 miles south of Kirksville. We are right across from a lovely section of the Sugar Creek State Forest, and if so inclined you can hike the trails or the creek or walk through our 5 acre reestablished native prairie.
