The Little Italy Mercato stretches up Date Street from Kettner to State (and soon Union) and includes a Certified Farmers' Market along with locally produced breads, sauces, organic granola, fish, flowers and plants, and artisan olive oil, pasta, sea salts, and more.
Local chefs shop at the market and also cook there, using local, fresh ingredients. Watch for the debut of the demo kitchen next month, where shoppers can learn exactly what to do with that beautiful ruby chard or baby artichokes.
In a neighborhood founded by fishermen and in view of the waterfront, it's a perfect place to stock the larder on Saturday morning and also enjoy breakfast and lunch, a little music and the urban ambience of Little Italy. Opened in June 2008, the Mercato has already become part of the heart of the city. Open 9 am to 1:30 pm every Saturday, year-round, rain or shine.
At our farmers' market in the Little Italy neighborhood of San Diego we're doing our best to keep downtown residents from ever having to drive to a grocery store. Fresh produce, fish, meat, and eggs are offered along with olive oil, pasta, bread (hey, it is Little Italy) pastries, sea salt and more in the heart of the city. We welcome inquiries from local farmers and producers. Join us every Saturday from 9 am to 1:30 pm, year round. Mangia Bene!
