Barry's Berries & Jan's Jams at Rose Tree Hill Farm

Barry's Berries and Jan's Jams (and more!) at Rose Tree Hill Farm, is a small family farm located in Charles City County, Virginia, between Richmond and Williamsburg. We are only a 20 minute drive from downtown Richmond. It is hard to believe but our farm story began with an encounter with a rosetree (an English translation from greek for a rhodedendron bush) on 8200 West Cool Hill Road! My wife, Jan and I saw it blooming at the end of the driveway, and we just knew this beautiful place would be the beginning of our farming journey. We bought this old, neglected fruit orchard in 1990, and lovingly restored it with the educational guidance of Virginia State University's Small Farm Program scientists, and since 2006, we have been growing and selling the best berries (blueberries, mulberries, blackberries) in Charles City Co., Virginia, and we daresay, further than that! Oh we forgot to mention, we also have limited quantities of figs, cherries Can you just imagine the good eating you'll experience this year, picking your own sustainably grown, pesticide free, local fruits, . Won't your family and friends be delighted knowing you cared enough to harvest many of the ingredients for the meal they are eating? But what happens if you need fresh ideas on new recipes? We have you covered because Jan is the author of Foothills Gourmet-Cookbook of Well-Traveled Hillbilly. This cookbook has time-tested, simple and delicious recipes like: Barry's Mushroom Appetizer, Baked Fresh Green Tomatoes, Blueberry Bread, and Rebel Yell Vegetable Soup...We think you'll enjoy experimenting with this cookbook! Your Pick-Your-Own experience will begin when you call and set up an appointment. You'll need to make an appointment because our crops ripen on Mother Nature's timetable and we are not exactly sure when the different crops are ready. We understand your time is important, and we don't want you driving out to the farm, only to find we dont have much to pick! Bring a picnic to enjoy, as we have a beautiful ,shaded ,grassy area with picnic tables. When you come for your Pick-Your-Own experience, you will make sure you get special attention and care. We will meet you with our golf cart at the front of the farm (near the chicken tractors) and take you to where the best picking is, we'll give you picking pointers and tips, and then we'll come back to pick you up when you are ready. You are going to love picking at Barry's Berries and Jan's Jams. And don't forget Jan also makes luscious jams from our farm bounty, so you'll have to try them, too.
