Sunburst Tomatoes

Delicious, nutritious, picked ripe, and pesticide free are just a few of the words that describe our wonderful Sunburst Tomatoes. We began growing greenhouse tomatoes in 1993 after realizing the need for a quality tomato in eastern North Carolilna. Having been successful at growing delicious tomatoes, we have continued to expand our operation to grow for more customers. We pollinate our tomatoes using bumble bees. To battle predatory insects, we use beneficial insects. We begin putting good insects in during the winter months to assure we stay ahead of the bad bugs so we use "no pesticides". We tissue sample our plants so we can give them the nutrients required for the best growth for flavor. Our farm has been in the family since 1837. It's approximately a hundred acres with pasture, forest, and farmland. We rent out most of the land for cotton and soybeans, but tend about 5 acres for cantaloupes, asparagus, squash, and peaches. Our greenhouse space is about 18,000 square feet. Our heat comes from a large hot water boiler that burns woodchips. In the late summer, we begin the process of preparing our greenhouses for the next season. We plant the seeds in the October, transplant in November, maintain the plants( throughout the entire crop), and begin picking in January. We sell the tomatoes from January through August.
