The Purple Porch Co-op connects consumers and producers in a just food cooperative. We value: Locally sourced food, Transparency, Sustainability, and Community focus..
We currently operate as a small grocery, a local foods market and a cafe:
The Grocery: Everyone is welcome. As a co-op we are supported financially by Member-owners and revenue. However we encourage everyone to shop. Prices are the same for everyone - except a few weekly specials for Member-owners.
Cafe Max: Everything is made in our kitchen using local and/or organic ingredients. Cafe Max offers gluten-free options in a kitchen that uses gluten.
For the Market: Purple Porch Co-op producers post their fruit, vegetable, meat and baked good products for sale on the co-op's web site. Customers can shop online for their food, and pick up their purchases weekly at the distribution center. It is a win-win: producers have a market for their harvest, consumers can live their values of buying locally and naturally grown whole foods with the convenience of one distribution center, 123 N. Hill St, South Bend.
The Purple Porch Co-op is its its sixth year of operation. Our intention is to limit the products sold at the Market to local producers - which we define as within a 60 mile radius of South Bend, IN. We expect that at 100% of products sold through the Market will be grown/raised locally or have had valued added locally.
Our growing list of producers includes Hebron Farm Coop, the Blueberry Ranch, Blue Star Produce, Lehman's Orchard, Zen Cafe, The Fair Bakery, Farming for Life, Ceres & Co. Organics, Pa's Vegetable Patch, Third Day Organics, Rise Up Farms, Scherf Farms (dairy), Tower Hill Farm - all located in the Michiana area.
Additionally, exclusive to the Grocery, we have the following local producers: Jake's Country Meats, Grass is Greener, Morris Farm, Cook's Bison, Willow Pond Farm, Granor Farm, Hobojims Sauces and Spices, Thornburg, Muddy Acres Farm - all located in the Michiana area.
This is a co-op that goes above and beyond what most co-ops accomplish. Customers can order ahead on the convenient website, and there's no minimum order, so you'll never end up with extras you won't use.... [more]
