Homegrown Acres

I can't say enough good things about this place! What a refreshing change from the normal farm. Brian and Helen keep their animals healthy and treat them well; you can see the vigor as you watch their pigs, goats, chickens and ducks roam around their pastures. You know you are getting good, properly grown food.

And their eggs...are to die for! By far the best tasting eggs I have had in a long time. The chickens and ducks spend their time eating fresh grass and bugs; it's a kick to watch the ducks playing in their pond.

Brian and Helen also seem to be farmers with a purpose. Not only is everything pasture raised and humanely treated, but they are raising heritage pigs in the effort to keep these rare breeds alive. Their Old Spots are especially cool and cute. It is really wonderful when Helen calls the pigs and they come running up out of the woods to her feet with their huge ears flopping as they run! Happy pigs are healthy pigs!

Don't pass through this area without checking out their farm - Homegrown Acres. If you are interested in sustainable farming and humane animal management, this is a rare gem in the beautiful Ozarks! And Brian and Helen are really cool people too with laid back attitudes and great stories. Just watch out for their Chihuahuas! Guard your ankles!
