New Rennaissance Gardens

By: Andy (Aug 4, 2008)
After reading the recent issue (August) of Country Roads that contained an article on New Renaissance Farms (CSA) program in the area, we decided to pay them a visit. We drove about 20 minutes to turn on a gravel road and enter the farm. We were greeted by the owners Sharon and Joel Leleu and David Klier and 2 small children. We received an enlightening tour of the property including the different areas of planting, watering and a long walk in the woods to see the "mother tree". The crops contained seasonal herbs, tomatoes, beautiful peppers and squash and more. The care and precision taken for these gardens shows the love of the land that this group has. We came away with a new respect for farmers and a yearning to learn more. We were sent home with a small container of worm casings to try out at home. We hope to continue our relationship and have an active participation with New Renaissance Farms. They are accepting memberships with delivery of 10-12 lbs of local produce as well as jarred and preseved goods. We look forward to our deliveries and our friendship with NRF.
