Farmers Market at LaCenterra

We recently moved to Katy and I was SO excited to see there was a farmer's market close by. Unless my view of a farmer is way off (did I mention that I grew up on a farm?), this is not what I expected. There were more arts and crafts than produce. There were only a few watermelon, very poor quality tomatoes, and zuchinni.
I was pleased that there were free range eggs, but did not expecte them to be $5.00/dozen--and they were extremely small!
I won't go back.

Hi Virginia, First of all, Welcome to Katy, TX! I am the market manager for the Farmers Market at LaCenterra. We invite local Artisans to join our farmers market once a month. You must have visited us on an Artisan Fair weekend. The reason I started a farmers market in Katy is because it is not a farming town (used to be), but a small city and I love farmers markets. Typically, at any given time of the year, we have 2-5 produce vendors, who travel as far as 70 miles one way, to bring fresh produce to the Farmers Market at LaCenterra. Unfortunately, in South TX, where we are, it is difficult to grow produce in the heat of the summer because of extreme drought and temperatures ranging from the 90Ã??s to the 100Ã??s. Since our produce is TX grown, selection during the summer months is limited. By popular request, we chose to stay open all year long to provide our customers with other products they come to expect each week. A larger selection of produce is available in the spring and fall. At the Farmers Market at LaCenterra, our produce sells very quickly, so you will find the best selection available early in the morning. We open at 8 am. Dustin's Free-Range Eggs sells his eggs for $3.00/dozen or 2/$5.00, which is less expensive than the grocery stores! He offers deeper discounts the more you buy. Dustin's eggs are so popular, that no matter how many 100's of dozens he brings to market, he usually sells out during the first couple of hours of the market opening. There is a link to subscribe to our newsletter on our website, www.FarmersMarketatLaCenterra.com . Our newsletter will provide you with the most up-to date info on what vendors will be participating in our market along with a list of produce and other products that are available for purchase. We would love the opportunity to better serve you. If there is any way I can help you, please feel free to contact me. Blessings, Ro Cazenave Market Manager www.FarmersMarketatLaCenterra.com 281-265-8476 (temporary - due to a personal move)
