Farmers Market at LaCenterra

By: Laura (Apr 28, 2008)
I have been going to farmer markets for years, all over, and travelled a ways for this one, it was a waste of my time, one particular complaint is the group of "kids" who were selling the produce they had grown themselves, I understand they are regulars there. I know a lot about agriculture and when I started talking with the "owner" it became clear he knew nothing about farming and was offering out of season vegetables for Texas this is common but these kids were the most obvious I had ever seen. In fact there was quite a few shady characters there who seemed to know very little about there trade, from a seasoned veteran I have learned be VERY careful, ask questions and if you get a bad vibe chances are you are right and don't risk it, donÂ?t assume they are telling you the truth nothing is regulated out there and most importantly donÂ?t forget to haggle! One huge plus there was a man and wife selling "worm dirt" and the BEST bread and butter pickles I have ever had must buy! Also there was a gentleman selling "Fast Indian FoodÂ? gave lots of samples and everything was GREAT!

What a comment! Well, I'm a long-time attender of the FIRST farmers market in Katy, the one held weekly at LaCenterra. I have always had a great experience at the market. The vendors, for the most part, are pleasant and I have been extremely pleased with my trips to the market and the great foods I take home with me. I get Dustin's eggs every Saturday!

I have already responded as to why this is probably inappropriate, but I would like to add that the farmer and his kids that were at the vendor booth space that this lady was talking about is Hanka Brother Farms. His children are young, but this family has been farming for generations. He does bring in items from some of his friends farms not from our area. to give our customers a larger variety.

There are a disgruntled vendor that is trying to create trouble for our market. They just happened to leave our market last Saturday.
