The Good Farm

By: Gregory Bowman (Jan 18, 2010)
My wife and I have had good experiences the last two years, and we've signed up for 2010. I've often talked to Aimee and John, the farmers Good. I deeply appreciate their efforts to care for their land, to give a season of instruction to their interns in organic farming, and to give their many shareholders good value for their CSA dollars. 2009 was a very difficult year for all vegetable growers in the region: too wet, too cold and late blight. The Quiet Creek folks did the best the could in this tough situation, and have asked for honest feedback through their usual year-end survey. The farmers and their staff do a generally good job of keeping the U-pick areas accessible and well-marked. Flowers are a great edition, and, with the herbs, really add value to each week's Quiet Creek production. As experienced market farmers, the Goods also know the importance of cooperating with other producers. They offer fruit shares, and stock local grass-fed meat, farm-direct cheese and dairy products and wild-caught salmon from a local couple with a business in Alaska. This really lets CSA customers increase their local food purchases, if they want to do so. Looking forward to a drier, warmer 2010 - with whatever surprises we will weather together.
