My son (a toddler) loved helping me pick beans, peas, strawberries and raspberries in the u-pick. I have never had such yummy strawberries. Seriously.
The farmers are a young family that are very friendly, accessible and flexible. The ask for feedback and listen to it. They work with many other local farms to offer things in their farm store ranging from yogurt and eggs to beef and salmon. They also host workshops on canning and other storing methods so you can have some food throughout winter. (if you don't eat it all by fall :)
Some might be turned away by the unpredictability of crop yields. An extremely rainy year will have differing yields than a very hot and dry year. So one year you get a bumper crop of tomatoes and another year you get a bumper crop of greens. It evens out over time .... my uncles who are farmers taught me that when I was a kid.
There are other reasons I am happy ... local food is fresher and therefore healthier. Local food also uses less fossils fuels for transportation.
I cannot recommend this enough. It is fun, healthy .... and exciting!
