Waldrop Mercantile & Farm Market

I was exiting the Post Road post office to get back on I-20 when I noticed a sign for fresh produce. I'm very enthused by naturally grown produce, despite that it's a bit pricier, so I decided to check it out. I saw these two ladies sitting under a shady tree shelling beans when I drove up. They were friendly and helpful so I ended up purchasing some tomatoes and a dozen farm-fresh eggs though I was tempted to buy so much more. There was a tiny shed/shop where they had the eggs in a fridge and I walked in to see the cutest country store I've seen! Neat and clean as can be both inside and outside the store. There were jams, jellies, raw, organic honey and various preserves along the shelves, and in produce they seemed to have okra, vidalia onions, green beans, peaches and tomatoes at the moment. Their raw honey was maybe $3 or $4 pricier than other raw honey I'm used to buying from Whole Foods, or farmers markets in Atlanta, but it seemed to be harvested in their backyard, so that is a plus point and supports our local growers (they even had a sign up by the honey explaining why their honey was pricier, so that's honest and straightforward marketing). I'll definitely pick some up next time around, along with some Vidalia onions, vine-ripened tomatoes and other produce...and maybe I need to focus on increasing my paychecks so I can buy this stuff daily! I happened to ask the ladies about raw milk and they pointed me to their neighboring house where they said to just walk up to a fridge outside by the barn. Two beautiful but very excitable Aussie Shepherds blocked my entrance and hovered around me till I somehow assured them I'm friendly...I dropped my money in a letter-box by the fridge and walked away with a gallon of fresh, raw milk. The owner was out by his tractor and told me how to treat the milk to pasteurize it, so it was nice to meet the very people who grew the food I'd bought. Enjoyable trip, will definitely bring/tell my friends from the city about this find.
