County Line Meats

Kristi & Davin Wirrenga of County Line Critters are the real deal. If you want an incredible farm experience in a short amount of time. The folks over at CLC will show you how sustainable and humane farming is done.

I first started purchasing CLC products at the Jamestown Farmers Market. Recently moved to the area, I am SO happy to find a local farmer who sells eggs, chickens, ground beef, various cuts of beef, some home baked goods, and my personal favorite- the occasional goat's milk fudge. But then I am a complete chocoholic.

My sister and I recently visited the County Line Critters Farmstead. I was excited to find it was not hard to find and only about 20 minutes from Jamestown, ND. Just enough time to catch up with family type drive.

The Wirrenga's and friends were just finishing up their second day of harvesting chickens and turkeys. If I recall correctly they readied something like 135 chickens and 15 turkeys for some lucky local folks. One of those free wandering gobblers had my name on it (or mine his??)

Sister and I took a short tour of the farm. We were guided by the family dog whom made sure we knew who was in charge upon our arriving. I am not sure which is bigger; the dog or the bark, in this case. He (what's his name? ) then strolled us past some goats and turkeys whom were devouring piles of bright orange pumpkins. I immediately thought "forgot your camera"! Crazy looking turkeys and noble eyed goats chewing as chewing goats chew.

Next we were standing in carnage as Davin took the time to explain the process and engineering they used to pluck the poultry. My sister and I were nearly aghast at the simplicity. Having visited our cousins farms frequently as children we spent a few long stinky days hand-plucking the birds. WHAT!?

Turns out there is a much more efficient way to do that and Davin knows the exact science. For anyone wanting to learn how to harvest poultry incredibly efficiently and humanely, I suggest a tour of County Line Critters.

The bottom line for me is I have been nothing but pleased with the beef, poultry, goods, and products I have receive from County Line Critters. Kristi always has great suggestions and tips on how to prepare the foods, which I greatly appreciate, also.

I highly recommend you look into their monthly CSA options as well. You can get a great flat rate on beef that is well worth it financially and health-wise for sure. They are good people doing a good thing and we can locally reap the benefits of their fine farming practices.

And that's no small thing.

Happy Customer,
