Family Farms CSA

By: Stacie Hughes (Dec 8, 2011)
I am surprised to see the recent post concerning Family Farms. My friend and I purchased a half share in June--had two deliveries (three no show deliveries where I waited for Mr. Fogarty). I called in October to check on the status of the deliveries and was told I would get a returned call from Foster. I have heard nothing from this group since July. I know five others who encountered the same unprofessional treatment.

I do not recommend doing business with these people.

I am surprised as well Jane. Foster answers his phone, I communicate with him each week to see when pick-up time is & where. Either the farm or possibly the Denison Farmer's market. I am pleased with my share!

Sounds like your experience mirrored ours, too bad we didn't read this before a whole slew of us got taken for a lot of money. Lesson learned, the very hard and expensive way.

Wow, that IS a completely different experience you describe than the other two reviews posted so far. I'm not a CSA subscriber to this farm, but if I was considering joining them, another thing I would be concerned about is on their main LocalHarvest listing page, they claim to network with other local small farms. What farms are they working with on what crops, what farming practices do they use, etc.? The local food movement has given rise to a lot of different types of efforts aimed at unscrupulous people aiming to make a quick buck, and there are more than a few people using the term "partnering with other small farms" as a euphemism for buying in bulk from the wholesale markets, with no connection at all to the grower(s). That may not be the case here, but it should at least be a question for any farmer reselling from other sources.
